About us
Our Approach: How We Work
At Humanitarian Action for Peace and Development in Africa (HAPDA), we believe that sustainable development and lasting peace are best achieved through inclusive, locally driven solutions. Our approach is grounded in community participation, strong partnerships, and accountable program delivery that directly responds to the needs and priorities of the people we serve.
HAPDA employs a direct implementation model — managing and executing projects through our skilled technical teams in collaboration with local stakeholders. This ensures efficiency, ownership, and quality control across all our interventions. By maintaining a presence in multiple counties and border regions, we work closely with target communities to design, implement, monitor, and evaluate programs that bring measurable and lasting impact.
Our approach is defined by the following principles:
-
Community-Centered Development:
We place communities at the core of every intervention. Through participatory needs assessments, community dialogues, and inclusive planning sessions, we ensure that our programs reflect local priorities and empower beneficiaries as active partners rather than passive recipients. -
Strong Partnerships with Government:
HAPDA works in close alignment with county and national government structures to complement public systems and policies. We collaborate with line ministries such as Health, Education, Agriculture, Water, and Gender to enhance coordination, avoid duplication, and strengthen institutional capacity for service delivery. -
Direct Implementation of Projects:
HAPDA implements its projects directly through dedicated program and field teams, ensuring transparency, accountability, and technical excellence at every stage. Our field staff engage closely with local communities, monitor progress continuously, and adapt interventions to changing contexts to maximize impact. - Capacity Building and Empowerment:
We invest in strengthening the capacity of community-based organizations (CBOs), youth groups, and local leaders to manage and sustain development initiatives. By building local ownership, we promote resilience and ensure that progress continues beyond project timelines.
Integrated and Multi-Sectoral Programming:
HAPDA’s interventions are holistic, linking humanitarian response with long-term development across sectors such as Health, WASH, Food Security, Education, Peacebuilding, and Livelihoods. This integrated approach promotes synergy and addresses the root causes of poverty, conflict, and vulnerability.Accountability to Affected Populations:
We uphold transparency, participation, and feedback mechanisms that ensure communities have a voice in decision-making and hold us accountable for results. This reinforces trust, strengthens partnerships, and ensures our actions remain people-focused.
Through this participatory and partnership-driven approach, HAPDA continues to build stronger, more resilient, and peaceful communities across Kenya, Ethiopia, and Somalia — turning humanitarian action into long-term development and hope for generations to come
Uniting for peace and sustainable change.
